 History:
Most people associate the poodle with
France, but actually it originated in Germany. Originally used as a
herding and water-dog, the versatile poodle has also served as a guide dog,
military dog and even a circus performer. It was a favorite of the French
aristocracy and eventually became the national dog of France. Today, the
poodle is one of the most popular breeds in the world.
Temperament:
This is an energetic and playful little
dog. It is very intelligent and always eager to please. Poodles
respond well to obedience training and can learn all sorts of tricks.
Even though some may bark, they usually get along well with children, other
pets and dogs.
Maintenance:
Poodles crave interaction with people.
They need a lot of mental and physical stimulation. Obedience training
will be well-rewarded. Poodles shed their hair, but it doesn't
fall out. It stays tangled in the other hair. To avoid matting,
you should comb your poodle every day. Pet clips should be done every 5-6
weeks.
